Mohamed Hussein took more than a year to complete his latest work.
(Kuala Lumpur, 26th) “We are developing the country, we are a developing country, but what kind of development do we have? What exactly are we developing?”
In conjunction with Malaysia’s 67th Independence Anniversary, Dato’ Mohamed Hussein, Chairman of the Malaysian Credit Guarantee Corporation (CGC), raised this thought-provoking question at the launch of his latest book, “How Malaysia Missed 7 Chances At Nation Building – Can We Learn from Them?”
During the book launch event at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF University), Mohamed pointed out that this is a book about the need for continuous national development while also reflecting on the past and evaluating whether adjustments are necessary to ensure that nation-building remains on track.
This 200-page book is divided into 12 chapters, focusing mainly on two themes: “Vision” and “Reflection.” It raises one thought-provoking question after another, aiming to learn from the past and move towards the future.
“At this stage of our country’s development, can we fulfill the vision set out by the founders 67 years ago?”
He emphasized that we must assess whether the direction of national development is correct. If it is, we should continue forward. If it is not, we must correct the course.
“I have selected what I believe are seven excellent opportunities for construction and reform from history and considered how, if we had seized those opportunities and made different decisions, the results today would have been different.”
He emphasized that the purpose of the book is not to change history or criticize but to reflect on the past and learn from mistakes.
“History cannot be changed, but it can be questioned, and we can understand why certain opportunities were missed at the time.”

“History keeps repeating itself, so we must reflect on the past, learn from past mistakes, and avoid repeating them. From this moment, this day, and the next 30 years, we can control, decide, and change. Taking one small step and persisting for ten years will show results.”
He said that the next 30 years will belong to the next generation, but the current generation has the responsibility to provide them with the right education, cultivate necessary skills and values, so they can stay on the correct development path.
He emphasized that future generations will also face the same various issues that hinder progress. This highlights the importance and necessity of understanding history, continuing to leverage our country’s advantages, and courageously facing setbacks and correcting mistakes.
“As the name implies, this book discusses how we have deviated from the correct track. But we are not completely lost; we just took a wrong turn somewhere and need to find the correct path again.”
Book buyers lined up to ask Mohammad Husin to sign his new book.
